Calculated Fields Disappearing!

Post by Ann_E_(Guest) » Thu Dec 14, 2006 5:58 pm

I^m opening a user SQL report created in R&R v10.1.003 to add a new field to the SQL statement. When I click OK to the modified query, I get the message that over 30 calculated fields are going to be removed if I continue. I cancel and they remove anyway. I closed the report without saving then re-opened it. I clicked on one of the many fields -- they are total fields based on calculated fields. The underlying calculated field is no longer in the list. This report still runs just fine and displays all of the calculated fields. The report was last modified six months ago to add a footer and there were no issues at that time. The report is run against an Oracle 9i database. The fields that are disappearing are all on footer band lines. Any ideas what can be done so I can add one new field for my user without losing 30 others?

By the way, the original fields that the calculated fields are based upon are still in the query.

Do you also see the same error if you go to the Select statement window and simply close it without making any changes?____Kathleen__R&R Support

No, if I don^t modify the SQL statement, the message about removing fields does not appear. The fields that disappear after the SQL is modified are total fields based on calculated fields. Here^s an example. Total field is clmmedpay: sum(pay_med(), claim_number, every, running). The calculated field pay_med no longer displays in my calculated field list. When it was there, it was based on one of the fields in the SQL statement that is still in the SQL statement. The report still runs correctly when called from our Oracle 9i application, but why did the fields disappear? Is there any way to fix this so I can add a new field to the SQL without starting all over and recreating the 30 or so calculated fields? Is the report corrupt and should be recreated from scratch?

Any possible solutions outside of recreating the report?

Since I have never seen this happen before, it could be a corruption in the particular report so doing a rebuild is probably the only way to solve things.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Using R&R 9____After using a complicate [for me] report for several weeks, it stops running [since its backup runs fine, I assume that it has become corrupted]. You mentioned "rebuild" a report. What is the process?

The process would be to create a new report.____Kathleen__R&R Support
