Trouble printing to a text file

Post by FRED_EMMERICH_(Guest) » Wed Jan 24, 2007 3:58 pm

I am trying to print to a text file by setting up the file as a printer. I am trying to get my output to a text file as it comes out on paper, but these are old reports out of my hands, so I can^t modify them to export to a text file. That works well.____Anyway, my printer is generic/text only. The output I get does not look correct, the spaing is messed up and it looks like it adds tabs or spaces in the output along with funny characters. It also does not seem to honor column widths of my database fields, a lot of them are cut off.____Has anybody tried this?____My original files were V8.1 and I have v12 now. I still have the old version if I need to go back to it.

Are you using a runtime control file?____Kathleen__R&R Support

Nope. R&R thinks it is a printer. I set the output file (in Windows) to be a printer, so any program printing to it thinks its going to a printer.____Fred

Without being able to modify the report itself, we may not be able to get this to work as you wish.____Can you do a text export using a runtime and a control table?____Kathleen__R&R Support
