ODBC Driver / User Data Selection

Post by Bob_Lantz_(Guest) » Wed Nov 07, 2007 9:07 am

I^ve created a series of reports with R&R 12 that use data files on a common network server and made several copies of the report files in separate folders for each user. My plan was for them to open up the report, edit the filter and be able to get data customized for them.____Some users can double-click on the report files and get a message stating that the data source does not exist and do they want to create it (ODBC Source). They click yes/OK a couple of times and they are off and running. ____Other users however can open the same reports and they have to browse down to the actual data files each time they open the report even after opening it once, selecting the data source and saving the changes. With one of them I tried creating the ODBC data source first with Control Panel>Admin Tools>Data Sources (ODBC). Even with the ODBC source created with the same drivers as I had used to create the original, R&R seems to not be motivated to use the ODBC source. HELP!!!

I^ve discovered that the users that have installed the software from the disk are presented with a statement saying they don^t have the ODBC source a given report uses and question asking if they want to create an ODBC source. They click OK on that question and then OK on the ODBC configuration screen and the source is created and it never asks them the question again.____Users that have installed R&R from the network drive are asked for the location of the access data file each time they run the report even if the ODBC source used by the report exists on their machine.____In response to your question, the answer is "ANY" ODBC source.

When you configure an Access data source, you also need to select a particular MDB file for that data source so that R&R knows what database to use.____Kathleen__R&R Support

When you set up an ODBC source you have to pick a data file, is there some other setting you are referring to?____Also, I thought that installing R&R directly from the disks rather than off the shared network drive fixed the problem of the users being asked for a specific data file, but it didn^t. Today I had a user who was consistently getting a pop-up dialogue box asking for the data file name/path when his Options and the ones that created the report were set to always use reports data source for existing reports. He was one that was installed from the disk rather than the network.____What/where does R&R store the information on whether to use the report^s data source and what that is, so I could go check/edit it?

If you go to the ODBC manager and view the data source configuration, does it show a selected MDB file name in the Database frame?____Kathleen__R&R Support
