rrwfif.ini question

We still have alot of report definition using the rp1 format and will continue to for some time. We use the rrwrun program to generate reports from these definitions. ____An option we provide is the ability to print any report to a text file. With the rr6 version of the runtime, that created a proper column aligned text file. With the rrwrun windows runtime, it uses the rrwfif.ini file to control the report conversion. Since the majority of the prints are using a compressed print format, the default conversion via the rrwfif.ini file causes the column alignment to be lost and fields run together (almost like trimming the fields). ____Based on Kathleen^s suggestion years ago, we changed the rrwfif.ini file to specify the compressed font as 10 instead of 17. This allows the report to retain the column alignment. However, in order to control that behavior under the runtime, we had to create a second report writer runtime directory with its own separate rrwfif.ini file with the modified settings. This works okay.____Is there someway under program control to specify different rrwfif.ini files so we could maintain a simple report directory but with different rrwfif.ini files being specified.____In addition, with the usage of the rrwrun.exe to create the text files, it appears to compress blank lines within page and group headings that did not happen that way with the rrun.exe method.____In addition, the reason we do not choose to convert the specification to the rrw format currently is because since are reports are in compressed format, in order to easily generate the text file version, we would have to maintain two separate version of the definitions, one in compressed format and one in 10 pitch format. ____Unless there is a better way to use the same definition for the compressed printing and then to export the report into a standard text file that duplicates the appearance of the printed report. We then use excel to parse the reports when we need to for other uses.____Cliff.

Hi Cliff,__I^m not familiar with the font files. I^ll try and run some samples and see what happens. I also need to look into the C++ code and identify the modules where the files are read. It might be possible to turn this into a parameter.
