System Lock Ups

Post by cpauly » Wed Jun 27, 2001 4:03 pm

We started using R&R XBase Report Writer last year to generate our production schedules. The production schedules are still created in a DOS dBase III application. Ever since we started using this software, our users complained of their systems locking up. Symptoms included keyboard entires not being recognized, printed output taking minutes to print, and/or the inability to switch between applications. Most of the time, when the IS department responded to these calls, it found that RRW.EXE was consuming 99-100% of the CPU.____Our PC^s all operate on Windows/NT 4.0 SP6. They usually have dBase open in a command prompt window, Client Access Express sessions active to our AS/400, and Lotus Notes for our intranet email messages. Their dBase files are on their local drives and not on the network. They are printing to their local port and not across the network.____We have rebuilt their systems from scratch, given them new PC^s, and upgraded their R&R software from R8 to R9, all to no avail.____This problem occurs several times a week. ____Does anyone have any ideas on what we could try.____

I don^t know but I^ve seen a lot of dos apps eat up cpu cycles under NT. How are you launching the R&R reports? Can you modify the properties for the R&R application to run in it^s own memory space?____Regards,__Randal Ferguson
