Need help for font information file
RR Xbase__NT 4.0____I need to create a FIF so that reports I am creating can use the extended character set. The only two fonts that came with our installation are RRHP_III.FIF and RRTUTOR.FIF, and these don^t work for me.____The printers we currently use are HP Laserjet 5si and Savin MLP45.____I need to know how to get the specs (preferrably) for an HP soft font so that I can use the Font Manager. I have been to the HP web site, and it didn^t really help.____If anyone has specs or instructions they are willing to share for creating a font, it would be greatly appreciated. My report already has the extended characters in it; they just don^t print correctly because I haven^t told the printer to do so.____Keith

There are actually a bunch of other FIF^s that you can install.__When you run RRINSTAL.EXE one of the choices should be to install font files.__There is an old article on using soft fonts at http://www.livewarepub.com/ftp/TechDocs/Font Information Files.pdf____Or you can make the leap to the current windows version and not need to bother with any of this.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Thanks for the info. It should help.____As for making the leap to the current Windows version, wouldn^t the fact that the product we are using this for (PowerPlus) is still the DOS version prevent us from upgrading to Windows?____We plan to go to the Windows version of PowerPlus as soon as they send us a copy to evaluate. Does R&R offer an evaluation version of the Windows product as well? I would certainly like to upgrade, but I need to show my managers what it involves.____I know I have changed topics here, but any info on the Windows version, or how to get that info, would be appreciated.____Thanks,__Keith

Also, two observations about your suggestion.____1. I do not have the member RRINSTAL.EXE in my application folder. Why don^t I have this if I should, and are there any alternatives? RRSETUP.EXE is where I only see the fonts that already exist.____2. The link you provided didn^t work for me (Page Not Found).____Thanks for your help.__Keith

RRINSTAL is the install program on R&R disk one.____When I pasted the link the spaces did not come through correctly so here it is again.____Http://www.livewarepub.com/ftp/TechDocs/Font_Information_Files.pdf____We do not have a eval version however the product does ship with a 30 day return policy so you can try it and then return it if things do not work out for you.____Kathleen__R&R Support
====> RE: Need help for font info file
I tried using the RRTUTOR.FIF that we do have. It has a few proportional fonts set up that I can use to test.____I set a few of the fields -- return address information on a letter -- to a Times New Roman font. When I created the document with my other application (PowerPlus), the file that was created treated the entire document as plain text.____Any thoughts?____Thanks,__Keith

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Sep-12-03 AT 03:27 PM (EST)]If the application is using runtime to create the file then it might be setting RI_PRINTER to an A to create an ASCII text file.__If that is the case, then you could actually add some text fields in your report to add HTML tags to send specify fonts. When you create the file, you specify .HTML as its extension. When you view the file in a browser or print it, you will then see fonts.____Kathleen__R&R Support
