PDF problem
PDF problem
I generated a PDF using Arpeggio with CutePDFWriter and Ghostscript. The output file contained almost 3,000 pages of Invoices and was approximately 20mb in size. I installed R&R Version 10 on my Client^s clean XP workstation and downloaded CutePDFWriter and Ghostscript again, not realizing that R&R had its own PDF Export. I uninstalled CutePDFWriter and GhostScript and Set up an Invoice Report which we used to print 2,600 invoices. I^m now trying to generate a PDF from the invoice report. R&R PDF Export generated a file which was 3.4gb yes GB in size and unreadable by Adobe Acrobat Version 6. Adobe generated some error about a file pointer before the beginning of the file. I installed the PDF driver separately from the CD which produced a second version of the amyuni driver which produced the same results. I re-installed CutePDFWriter and Ghostscript. This produced a file of approximately 15mb with a /prepress switch set and a file of approximately 3mb with a /printer switch set. While the generation process shows the 2,600 pages being produced, Adobe opens each PDF and only shows 156 to 163 pages. I downloaded a 3mb PDF from my Client and edited it with a text editor. I can see where something goes haywire, but can^t track it back to any source data. I would like to stick with a pure R&R solution, but cannot fathom handling 3.4gb files each month even if Adobe could handle them. Is there a method to shoot down this problem?

Can you go back to using CutePDFWriter and Ghostscript as a way around the problem?____Kathleen__R&R Support

While CutePDFWriter produced a much smaller PDF, something in there goes haywire and Acrobat only shows about 160 pages when there are about 2,600 pages. ____I did a clean install of R&R V10+ on a new Windows XP Professional workstation. I^m using Pervasive V8. I moved my client^s data to the workstation and copied the rsw I^m trying to run. I ran last night for about 3 hours and produced a PDF which was 3.8gb and unable to be opened by Adobe Acrobat V6. R&R installed the amyuni 157 driver. I haven^t done the manual install, but it installs the amyuni 159 driver which produced the same large PDF at my client site.____I^m going to start stripping down the report itself to see if I can isolate what is causing the problem. I have a jpg color logo on the page header as well as some color text on the group footer which replaces the page footer (we^re doing a remittance tear-off on the last page for each customer). I can also play with selecting groups of customers to cut down on the volume. Since the data processes in customer number order, I can attempt to start processing just before the CutePDF cutoff to see if there is a problem in the data itself. ____The data I^m processing right now is older data from March which was used with Arpeggio and CutePDF to produce a 20mb PDF. The report then included the logo, but not any color text. It also had a single column for details. The new report does a two column detail layout.____There are only a couple of settings within the R&R PDF driver, like the check box for embedding fonts, so I^ll try with them also.____I^ll try to post the section of PDF output from CutePDF where I believe it goes haywire to see if that provides any clues to the problem.

After generating three separate print-to-file 49gb Postscript files from CutePDF, as well as HP CL 8550 and Ricoh Postscript 3 printer drivers, the latest version of GhostView/GhostScript could only semi-interpret the CutePDF output. I finally resorted to downloading a trial version of Adobe Acrobat Version 6 Professional which handled the job flawlessly. It generated a 49gb intermediate printer spool file which distilled into a nice and tidy 3.9mb PDF with over 2600 pages.
