Arpeggio Permission Problem

Post by Wade_(Guest) » Mon Mar 14, 2005 4:06 pm

I get the following message when installing Arpeggio 2.0 on Windows 2000 and/or XP for some users.____Severe__"Setup has determined that you do not have the appropriate privileges to install the software correctly. Please log in as Administrator and try again."____I know for sure the user has local admin rights. If I log in as myself it works fine. I even added in another user as an admin. When they log in it works also. I tried removing the users and adding them back in as an admin, but this did not work either. ____I did about 50 new installs of Arpeggio 2.0 and about half behaved this same way. It seems to happen more often with XP.____Any help would be appreciated.____Thanks,____Wade__

Arpeggio is an older release that was done by Wall Data. It has a more complex licensing and installation requirements than does the current shipping release, ReportWorks.____My suggestion would be to upgrade to avoid the problems. Otherwise you are somewhat on your own to work things out I am afraid.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Hi Kathleen,____I have a related problem. The older version of our application (about to be updated to a new version that will use R&R 11 runtime) uses the Arpeggio 2.0 runtime. Occasionally users report the following error when trying to print/preview:____ARPEGGIO Report Viewer__Improper licence rights; access to report viewer denied.____The solution seems to be to have their IT people reinstall WIndows, which the IT people sometimes are stubborn about doing.____I know that this is an old program and not Liveware^s responsibility, but can you point me to anything spcific that I could suggest to these users to try besides reinstalling Windows?____Thanks!

I did find some information in digging through my files.____In Arpeggio the viewer needs the ALO.DLL to be installed along with a registry key to locate it.____The required key is located in :__HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareWallDataOffice____Its name is SystemDir and it is a string__You want to set it to the directory where ALO.DLL lives which is typically c:program fileswalldatasystem______Hope this helps.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Thank you, Kathleen. This solved the preoblem for at least one user. I will suggest it to others if (as) it comes again.
