Inserted Picture Causes Slow Printing

Hi all. I^m printing a report and sending it to several hundred people. The report contains six inserted TIF images ranging in file size from 65K to 1.6MB (our company logo). The TIF images appear on every page and each recipient^s report may have several pages. Printing is very slow and results in a massive print job in the print buffer. The printing speed per page is even slow if I run a condensed report of a few pages. ____Any suggestions on how to improve the efficiency and printing speed of my report would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any print quality settings that you can adjust in the print driver that would allow images to print more quickly?____Kathleen__R&R Support

Thanks for the suggestion. I^ve tried various printer settings in the past without success but I^ll try again in a more systematic way. We generally print to an HP 4050 using a PostScript driver. Any opinions about whether a PostScript or PCL print driver works better? What^s the difference as far as R&R is concerned?

Hi,____We^ve been using graphics and R&R for many years, and it was a challenge to find a solution to make it work! Here goes:____1. Make sure you optimize your graphic file__ . Reduce the dots per inch__ . Reduce the colors, consider grayscale if printing on__ laser printer (non-color)____2. Convert your graphic file into a PCL file____3. Edit the PCL file, so it is in the form of a macro____4. Copy the PCL to the laser printer__ ie: copy logo1.pcl lpt1:__ This will only put the logo1.pcl into the printers memory____5. Modify your R&R report to load the PCL via a macro command,__ usually this is a simple PCL Escape sequence____By doing this, we improved our print jobs by 60%! ____Good luck!__Sergio____

Thanks for the reply. I^ll certainly try out your basic suggestions. I^ll be venturing in to new territory with the last procedure you describe. I^m not much of a developer! :)____I found some interesting posts in the thread called "Windows 2000 & printing problems -- fixed??" If you have any opinions regarding print drivers (PS vs. PCL), driver settings or the like I would appreciate hearing them.
