Default Runtime Printer

Post by billj_(Guest) » Thu Aug 18, 2005 12:09 pm

Our reports are designed in R&R Designer ver 8, but are called to run from a 3rd party app. After modifying a report (text, adding fields etc.) in designer the printer that is currently selected in the report stays permanent. When the report is run from a 3rd party application the runtime keeps that selected printer that is in designer. It does not pick up the selected default printer. This started about 2 months ago. The runtime control table is a DBF file.____Thanks

What is in RI_WPTR in the control file?____If you save the report with a printer that does not exist from the runtime environment, if the saved printer cannot be found, the current default printer will be used unless a printer value is explicitly set in RI_WPTR in the control table.__

The value for RI_WPTR = ?. This allows for the windows default printer to be the first choice, but it is not, it is still choosing the printer that is set up in designer.____Besides this the first time you run a report from the 3rd party app, the report takes up to 1 min before it runs. Which usually runs in a few seconds.

If the printer that was saved with the report can be found, then it would be the selected choice when RI_WPTR is set to a ?__The default printer is only selected when the saved printer cannot be found. So you might want to open and re-save the reports selecting a printer that will never be found in the runtime environment. That way the first choice will indeed be the default.____Kathleen__R&R Support
