Emailing R&R reports

Post by Bob_Powell_(Guest) » Thu Apr 12, 2001 10:33 am

Is there a sample program that sends an R&R report to an email address instead to the printer?

V9.0 includes the Export option to ^Send Via MAPI^ that does exactly that. With the new version, the ^Mail Options^ button takes you to the screen to either send the entire report or ^burst^ it into sections for emailing to an address stored in a field in your database. Both options are a significant improvement over previous versions, and quite unique for these kinds of tools. ____The screens are pretty much self-explanatory, but you can refer to the ^Enhancements^ description document for more information.

Is this functionality in the runtime libraries to allow this from within a program?__

Currently MAPI export is Report Designer only and not available via runtime.____Regards,__Kathleen__R&R Support

Why is it not included in the runtime ?____It would be very much appreciated if we would need nothing else but R&R to get our output sent by email!____

We can support you, we have excellent knowledge of C / C++ / C# / Clipper / Foxpro and Delphi...____We (and I assume more users)want to pay for accelerated action into this direction. Please hurry with including email support into the runtime. It^s such a good thing!____

This feature is designer only for now on purpose. Naturally, this very valuable feature would be great for all developers to have available in runtime. You guys would be heroes and be able to add huge value to your apps. Unfortunately, we would get next to nothing for it, at a time when we need as much in the way or resources as we can to enhance the product.____Therefore, I will make a deal with the R&R community: distribute R&R full licenses to your end users so that they can do ad-hoc reports and take advantage of the MAPI features. That will give us the resources to add MAPI features to runtime (which have never been there). If developers wait for this feature and continue to provide only royalty-free runtime to your end users, we will NOT be able to extend MAPI features to runtime -- eventually.____But I don^t want excuses about how your end-user can^t handle it!! They can and will, and the bursting feature is something they will want. You can also develop (and get paid for) reports to run within Designer, that far exceed anything we get for the R&R license.____In closing, we aren^t Microsoft and if you want us to move the product forward, you must do your part to spread reporting tools in ways that generate revenue for us.____Dan Levin__President

Dan,____That last message of yours is certainly a fine reason for me to go ahead now and move the one client I have using R&R to using Crystal Reports. The lack of support your company provides developers is certainly less than desirable.____-Bob

While I completely understand the need to develop and fund development internally. I am an inhouse developer and have used the OCX control in my visual basic program to do exactly what the new burst feature advertises. It would be great to have the design separated form the production which runs off hours.____We aren^t desirous of taking away from your companies resources and it would be of enhanced value to have this feature. Please consider this in the future.
