Field Format and export to Excel

I just installed RR 10+ and I am having trouble with the field formats. Do I need to set up something in the install so that when you insert a field it keeps the fields format from the database? I have a numeric field that has a auto decimal definition and it inserts as a 6 digit field no decimal.__The 2nd issue is that when I run a report with a field that has a date/time it looks fine in the report but when I export to excel I get ascii looking characters. I have tried changing to just a date or time before exporting and changing the format in Excel as well. I do not have this problem when I export to text.__Thanks.
