Insert fields (popdown list weaknesses)

Post by Clifford_Wiernik_(Guest) » Mon Jun 18, 2001 7:40 pm

I am an experienced R&R Dos user, since likely the first version. I have grown very fond, since I think at least version 5 and possibly earlier where when the field insert key (F10 in dos version) you could press the alt key and a letter and that would put you into incremental search mode. That allow for very quick entry of fields, especially since I have used often recommended methodolgy of stating character data with "c", numerics with "n" and so forth. In a database with 200-500 fields, that makes it much quicker than press the "c" repeatedly to go from on variable starting with "c" to the next.____Under the windows versions, including version 9.0, the incremental searching does not appear to be present, just the windows standard behavior of pressing the letter key repeatedly to go from one variable starting with "c", etc. to the next starting with "c", etc.____On my 600 field file, it is a real pain. When is liveware going to restore this functionality that was better from the DOS version. Many windows programs now provide incremental searching of list as opposed to the windows standard behavior method.____Or is this a better method that escapes me in the windows version and scrolling with the mouse is not the answer. Time is money and our new tools should increase our productivity, not decrease it.____

There have been a number of requests to restore incremental field search and also requests to be able to alpha order the field listing.____We do want to make this easier in the future so stay tuned.____Kathleen__R&R Support
