Kathleen,____We are looking at Advantage Database from Extended Systems to do encryption and other duties, like client-server. Does R&R xbase work with ADS? If so, what caveats are there, if any?____ADS claims it *should* work, I want to know for sure! :)____Thanks____Steve

R&R can read advantage tables but does not work through the ADS engine. As a result we do not support the larger table sizes that are available in advantage and if you are calling runtime from an advantage application, any cached database changes will not be immediately visible to R&R.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Kathleen, ____To follow up, ADS has encryption technology that we are looking to use for privacy and security reasons, not so much the larger database capability. ____Can R&R hookup to these encrypted databases somehow? Extended Systems indicated to me that it would have to be done through ODBC or OleDB. Does R&R support either?____If so, password access is required for the encryption. How would that work so that the password is not sitting in the Registry or somewhere "in the wild", or the User doesn^t have to enter a password everytime a file is opened?____thanks.____-Steve

The SQL version of R&R uses ODBC connectivity but we do not provide an Advantage Driver. If you can get one from Advantage, then you could indeed use it with the SQL version of R&R.____Kathleen__R&R Support
