R&R v8 and Win2000

Post by markathon » Fri Jul 26, 2002 12:16 pm

To all: ____FYI: Some DLL Hell____While performing security certification testing recently at our U.S. Navy customer site, we had a problem with using an R&R Report Writer v8.0 and VFP 7 app on a Windows 2000 test computer. We were using a test computer with a software load from the U.S. Navy NMCI gold disk. Our VFP 7-R&R 8 application crashed on printing, with the error message "Cannot find ^ctl3d.dll^". We scanned the ..Winnt.. folders and verified that the file indeed did not exist.____This problem was news to us as we had successfully run the application on a testbed computer back at our office that had the Win2000 OS loaded. The ^missing^ file DID exist there in the ..WinntSystem folder. As a contractor, we cannot influence what is loaded on the gold disk but can control what goes into our own project sub-folders on client site. So we took the ^ctl3d.dll^ file and put it into the ..R&R subdirectory of our application, tested it, and it worked - problem solved.
