I am trying to create a dictionary using the Report Dictionary Editor by populating from a SQL table (as the help file says I can). The "Populate from table" selection under File menu is always greyed out though, so I can^t choose it. I am able to choose "Populate from DBF" though, and that does work correctly. What can I do to fix this? I am using R&R Report Writer for SQL Version 9.

You can upgrade to Version 10 where you can populate the dictionary from within the SQL Report Designer.____Kathleen__R&R Support

I would prefer not to upgrade, does the Version 9 Report Dictionary not have the capabilities of populating using a SQL table? It^s bad programming form to program a link to something, and put it in the help files, and then not put any code behind it.____If I can not populate using the "Populate from table" function, I would still like to be able to type it in myself. Is there something special I need to put in the table name or somewhere else in Report Dictionary so that I can link my SQL tables to the dictionary? I^m asking because when I populate using a dbf, the dictionary links only to that specific dbf.__

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Jun-10-03 AT 08:27 PM (EST)]It does not. It is a bug in the V9 executable.____Kathleen__R&R Support

I still didn^t get my other question answered:____"If I can not populate using the "Populate from table" function, I would still like to be able to type it in myself. Is there something special I need to put in the table name or somewhere else in Report Dictionary so that I can link my SQL tables to the dictionary? I^m asking because when I populate using a dbf, the dictionary links only to that specific dbf."____I still need to be able to make my dictionary, and I can not do it unless I have this information.

You need to enter table and field names just as the appear within R&R.__So if the table has an owner name it would appear in the dictionary as OWNER.TABLENAME such as DBO.CUSTOMER.__For Xbase tables such as the R&R samples files you would enter just the table name such as RRCUST.______Kathleen__R&R Support
