Run RR 5 (DOS) RP1 files w/RRW8

We are successfully running RR5 RP1 files from RRW8 using RRWRUN with one problem:____The RR5 RP1 files use FIF (Font Information Files) to select "special" fonts for printing. It looks like the FIF^s are getting ignored while running under RRW8. This is a problem in that we are using a barcode font from an HP.FIF that is not getting printed when running under RRW8.____At this moment, I do not want to update the RP1 file under anything but RR5. (We will be upgrading the RP1 files to at least RP5 files... hopefully all the way to RR10, but I cannot upgrade right now.) Is there any way to get RRW8 to recognize the FIF files and use them?____Thanks!__Cheryl__

R&R uses the text file RRWFIF.INI (it is in the R&R program directory) to know how to map fonts from DOS to Windows. In the file there is a section for each font file and a section for reports that do not use FIF files.____If you are using a font file that you created, edit RRWFIF.INI and add a section whose name is the name of your FIF file. So BARCODE.FIF would be in a section called BARCODE. Then within that section there is a numbered line for each font and after the = a listing of the windows fonts that will be used to replace the DOS font.____I hope that this info will help.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Hi, Kathleen!____We have the RRWFIF.INI file in the same directory as the RRHP_BAR.FIF file. I did check, RRHP_BAR is correctly defined in the INI file with the correct fonts.____I suppose it is possible it isn^t finding the RRWFIF.INI file, but that file is in the same directory as the RRWRUN.EXE file.____I^m not sure what else to try at this point...____Cheryl__

Make sure the name of the font in the INI file is exactly the same as the font you want to use in windows. So if you have used font 7 in the report, your windows machine would need to have a font named OCR-A__since that is the only font in the list. If that could not be found, R&R would use the default font. You might want to experiment with editing the FIF to add fonts that you know exist, for example set it to Tahoma and see if that works.__ __Kathleen__R&R Support

Sigh... Ever look at something and swear it^s being done correctly, leave it for a weekend, lose an hour sleep (because of DST), then come back, look at it again, smack your forehead, utter a Homer-Simpson-D^oh! and figure it out? :)____I never changed the INI file to reflect the 3-of-9 barcode we have installed. D^oh! Everything works great now, Kathleen. Again, I thank you for your expertise in just pointing me in the right direction! We are happy, customers are happy.____Thanks again!____Take care,__Cheryl__
