TCP/IP Printing with Win XP

Post by Joe_Floyd_(Guest) » Mon Mar 10, 2003 5:36 pm

I posted a message a few weeks ago about a problem I was having. I got some responses, but no solution. Since then I have narrowed the problem down somewhat and wanted to fish for ideas again.____I am using RRWRUN.EXE to print a report. The .RRS file sets wptr=? to let the user choose the printer to print to.____This works fine except on some users^ systems that have WIN XP and have their printers on TCP/IP ports.____For instance, today I had a user with an HP Laserjet V on a TCP/IP port (when I went to printer properties, instead of being on an LPT port, it is lower in the list, TCP/IP port ....)____The printer selection dialog comes up fine, but it generates a Windows error when I choose print.____This machine did have a printer set as default printer.____What works: If I set WPTR=Default, then it will print to the default printer, even though it is on a TCP/IP port. However, I really need the printer selection option.____I am using version 9. ____Help! Anyone else experienced this? Suggestions?____Thanks in advance.

I have a TCP/IP printer available for my XP machines and I can successfully use the printer dialog so it is not a universal problem but rather one that seems to happen intermittently.__Sometimes selecting the Printer Properties box prior to actually printing will get this to work but not always.__The alternative is indeed to set RI_WPTR to default.____Kathleen__R&R Support
