V:10 Printing issues

We are running multiple office location thatv are accessed by our employees via Remote Desktop Connection clients into a Windows 2003 Server. We have a custom DB application that uses R&R Ver:10 for reporting. The problem we are having is that many times report will not print. I try the "Properties Button" workaround and that sometimes helps. The big issue is if the user wants to select a specific paper tray for the source. Ex. Remote office needs to print labels out which are stored in Tray 2 on the HP LaserJet 4000TN. If they select Tray 2 in the properties button the report will not print. If I leave the selection to Auto Select the report prints out to Tray 3 (the default tray). ____The "Properties Button" work around is really bothering my employees and I need a better solution. Any ideas?

We have had similar problems like the one you describe with v8.1 of R&R. When the report prints, the wrong paper try is selected on HP LaserJet printers. Specifically, the report would pull paper from the manual feed tray rather than the default tray. We never were able to solve this problem and had to live with the manual feed tray for our R&R reports.____We also had this issue with a copier/printer. Microsoft Word would print by default to tray 1 while R&R would print by default to tray 2.____We no longer use HP LaserJet printers so we don^t know if R&R v11 fixes this issue ... or if R&R is the problem .. might be printer driver or a Windows issue.______

The problem is indeed a bug in R&R for which there is no current workaround other than using the Properties button.____Kathleen__R&R Support

The big problem is that the properties button doesn^t always solve the problem. Sometimes it does, sometimes I have to select a totally different printer then go back to the original printer and sometimes no matter what we try it still will not print. Since this bug seems to be around for a very long time, shouldn^t it become a priority to fix? Having a report that you can not print or view on the screen is not very useful.

Was the paper tray issue the overwhelming reason why you no longer use R&R? If this problem were addressed, would you come back?____Kathleen__R&R Support

We first discovered this when printing to a HP 5L and found a solution on one of the boards that is no longer around. This was before Liveware. ____Apparently HP switched the addressing of the trays in printers after the Laserjet III or Iv, but this problem may affect some LJ4 models.____So, we deal with this problem by writing the reports we distribute on a development machine that has an HP Laserjet III driver as the default printer. When we run into this issue with a customer, we just have them add an LJIII printer driver for our application.____Since the LJIII driver is in Windows, this is painless for the customers and has yet to cause us to do anything different. Works great.____We are still distributing the 8.1 runtime and would love to see Liveware address this in a future release of V 11. Might just push us over the edge from 10.5 - particularly if another deal was offered like the V 11 prerelease deal.__
