Kathleen____We use R&R on a daily basis however since upgrading to XP and also upgrading to V9 of R&R we have been experiencing problems loading the report files.____What seems to happen is that when you do "file and open" the file either takes ages to load or a message is displayed saying the report file is in use.____On the server I check the shared open files and note that the file I wanted to open is listed so have to release it before I can try again. Once I do this it opens ok.____I have rebooted the server to see if there was perhaps a file holding problem but this is not the case.____R & R is installed as a standalone on my PC only, the report files are on the server. I have tried copying the report files to my PC but the same thing happens.____Any clues !! This is annoying because R&R is a brilliant product and we use it on many different database applications.____Regards____Ian Gladwinfield__City Site Estates plc

Kathleen____No, first renamed the file then deleted but no hope. ____Also I have removed the Virus protection software (just in case there was a conflict). Shortened the report file names (just in case they were too long).____I have looked at task manager when the file is loading and notice that my CPU goes to 100% while the file is trying to load. (This is probably normal).____Also loaded the software and tested on a different machine, same problem.____Some, but not all of my files were originally written in previous versions of R&R but even ones written in V9 cause problems. V9 was an upgrade could this be the problem ?____Do you think upgrading to V10 would allow me to use the files. We upgraded to V9 in order to use under XP. The cost would be high considering we have not been able to use V9 to full capacity.____Regards____Ian

the problem of long-running OPEN of report files was caused at my customer^s site by a simple change of the name of the printers..__the printer saved with the report can^t be found - so RR looks everywhere for it - during the OPEN process...____the solution is to save the report file with a current printername after you wait for it to OPEN.____the other solution is to use RRV10 which can be setup to use the DEFAULT printer as soon as the printername is not found locally on the users workstation list of installed printers - it^s a RRW.INI setting - PRINTER=DEFAULT in the "defaults" section.____so - you may have moved to Windows/XP AND changed some printernames at the same time - and it^s the change of printernames that^s the problem...____try it anyway...____good luck...__

Yes we did change some of the default printer names when this all started to go wrong. I think this may be it at last.____The only thing that is a mystery is why it opens ok in explorer but not when you choose file and open !____Thanks for the info, helped and sorted with work arounds.____Regards____Ian
