Kathleen,____did you discover anything yet? The same problem exists with XP. The simple way to see it is to run a report in the viewer and press control alt delete, then select performance in the task manager to see the 100 percent CPU usage.____Tom

But are you seeing any performance degradation in other applications under XP or is the reading simply a red herring?____Kathleen__R&R Support

On our system we actually see a performance hit on our primary application. Still available for a site visit if you deem this would be helpful.__Bob

No.. this is not a RED HERRING!... I have been using your products for over 15 years... I have been using Citrix for almost 6 years. I have always been pleased with both. ____I simply want to be able to continue to use your products and am looking for some help. Do you not have a configuration on which to view this behavior? Please take up Bob^s offer of a demo. My installations are in Canada and Northern California... niether a good choice for you I wouldn^t think.____Thanks in advance for any HELP____Tom

Bob,____Have you read the XP problem at the top of the page? We have found 2 sites, recently, where RRWRUN fails. It is corrupting memory and the 100% CPU utilisation is also a result.____We are confident that we have traced this to a lack of a local printer. I know it cannot be a simple as this since it has always worked in the past without a local printer. But there is a new generation of network printer nodes that do not install the same way as before and must look different to RRWRUN.____Can you do the same as Dan in the XP thread and add a dummy Laserjet2 to a workstation (he also had to make it the default, but we don^t). Now see if RRWRUN runs.____If it does, then half the problems in this newGroup are down to one inherent problem in versions 6, 8 and 9.____Bev Francis__

Kathleen, ____This issue deeply concerns me as we are looking to release a new product in the next month or so that is centered around R&R. Unfortunately, we have already recommended and have been installing Terminal Server and Citrix solutions. Several hundred businesses will be affected by this. ____As this problem was/is recognized by Liveware, as evidenced by the FAQ reference in this thread, I don^t understand the hesitency in addressing this issue when it^s confirmed to be one.____I too see 100% CPU utilization when using Win98 in development, and the only reason I even looked was because I noticed a slowdown when accessing Adobe reader looking up your documentation. I thought it was another task causing the problem, but as soon as I exit the viewer, everything is happy. ____I also believe there is a memory issue too. When previewing larger database reports (>40k records with 60 calculated/total fields), every once in a while i get a "memory low" dialog box and the viewer along with the designer and any changes I made, vanish when I click OK. It seems it cannot access the memory it needs from the swapper file, or it won^t wait or ??? ...____To workaround, I installed "Ram Booster" and I have to make sure there^s >48K available and remember to save any changes I don^t want to risk loosing before clicking the preview Icon. ____But this problem is just an inconveniece, the TS issue is huge. It would be a shame to have 2 years of development [and more] be in jeopardy so such a small issue. I too am a long time user of R&R (version 3 I think... too long ago to remember ;) ) and, based on my experience with the viewer and knowledge of multi-user systems, expect to prove the findings of others in this thread.____We will be setting up a system this week with Win2k and TS in our office for testing. We are located a few miles north of Exton, PA [MapQuest says it^s 26.4 miles from you to me] and would like to extend the invitation to view the problem(s) should we ^see^ it^s existence. Additionally, if you have any ^beta^ ware you would like us to try, please contact me directly as I^m not always checking this forum.____I am willing to assist you in whatever way I can as it^s in my best interest too :) ____Let me know.____Steve.__

Sorry to reply to my own post, but as soon as I went back to work, I ran right into the "Memory Low" wall... It seems I can run the [this particular] report if it^s less than x pages. if I click the Next Page icon, I get this message at page 9, if i click "end of report" icon, it craps out at page 10. In both cases with the "memory low" box. The system monitor indicated there was >120mb available so I^m befuddled.____When I click the ok, the program GPFs with this error____RRW caused an invalid page fault in__module MFC42.DLL at 0177:6c371351.__Registers:__EAX=00000000 CS=0177 EIP=6c371351 EFLGS=00010246__EBX=6c440008 SS=017f ESP=0076faa4 EBP=0076fad8__ECX=00000000 DS=017f ESI=00892e30 FS=1b67__EDX=819c7518 ES=017f EDI=0072022c GS=0000__Bytes at CS:EIP:__8b 71 04 85 f6 57 74 26 8b 7c 24 0c 33 d2 8b c7 __Stack dump:__00892e30 6c375c16 000004e8 0072022c 6c440008 00720160 6c3e7754 00000001 00720160 00720160 0076fe28 6c402c76 00000000 0076fafc 6c3764d0 0072027c ____If I shorten the scope and hence the report, all is well. ____This machine is Win98SE with all latest MS patches.____Any Ideas??____-Steve
