e-mailing reports

Post by Bryan_Singleton_(Guest) » Mon Sep 26, 2005 7:15 am

I have some reports which include tables, boxes and similar formating. I wish to e-mail those reports from R&R runtime, ideally without losing the formatting. I don^t need to send multiple reports to multiple recipients, just one report at a time to one recipient.__What are my options?__Whilst experimenting, I have had an MS Outlook style screen open, but I can^t generate it consistently, and I haven^t been able to determine what exactly is triggering it!__I am looking for a solution which is simple for the user.__What would you recommend?

One option would be to output the report to a PDF file so that you get a fully formatted report. There are a number of products in the market that would then allow you to schedule a windows task to attach and send that PDF file to an email recipient.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Thank you,____What if I was prepared to change my report formatting to that an .rtf export would suffice? This seems ok in report designer, but when I export from report runner, I dont see the mail options tab. Why is that?

Understood. I may be able to adapt the report to use rtf as I like the idea of automatically opening an e-mail window with the file as an attachment... But why don^t I see the ^mail options^ tab in report runner when I do in report writer? I am using the same report in both.

Email export is not available from rapid runner unless you choose prompt user as the report destination and have an available .LIC file with a serial number. You can then select the Export radio button and check the Send Via MAPI box in Export Options.____Kathleen__R&R Support

I don^t understand this answer. As far as I am aware, I am using Report Runner, not Rapid Runner. Are they the same thing? ____Does your comment about a .LIC file mean that I need Report Designer licenced on the same machine?____Where do I ^choose prompt user as the report destination^? I have seen no such option.____Thank you

Rapid Runner is an application that ships as part of R&R ReportWorks.____If you are using an app named Report Runner, it may be something else entirely that provides a front end to R&R runtime to execute report. You would need to find the setting within that app that would set RI_PRINTER to a ? which would in turn offer a dialog that prompts for the output to printer, screen or export.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Yes, that sounds right - a front end to runtime. I do get the screen, printer or export option, but whereas in report designer I then get an e-mail options tab if I choose export, I don^t get it when I use report runner, and I don^t know why not. Interestingly, a colleague of mine does get the export option with report runner, so there must be a switch, or something else which triggers it.

It^s all gone quiet!____Just to re-ask the question, but maybe it will be clearer in the light of previous posts... Why might it be that I don^t get the ^Mail Options^ tab whilst running a report from Report Runner, but I do when I run the same report from Report Designer?____A colleague of mine sees the tab from both tools but we can^t fathom out why?____Thank you
