Cannot match printer or port in con

Post by bprizz » Fri May 17, 2002 7:01 pm

I am a consultant working with a customer of Cougar Mountain Software. They are having a problem establishing printing to a 2nd printer, an oki microline 390 attached to a hp print server, from windows 2000 from the Cougar Mouain Software running report writer runtime (not sure which version, how do I tell?).____They have been successful in being able to print to an HP 1200 laser printer but when they try to set up a printer to direct to the okidata printer, they get the error message "cannot match printer or port in control file".____I can print to the oki printer from Win2k as well as DOS (I have mapped lpt2 to the oki per Cougar Mountain^s recommendation, the HP is mapped to lpt1.) I have also downloaded and installed the most recent win2k printer drivers from oki^s web page.____I have seen in the discussion forum about setting the "RI_WPTR" variable to Default and to leave the RI_WPORT variable blank but I am not aware which file these variables reside in or if it is even a file I can get to as I do not have access to the source code.____Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.____Thanks,____Brent Prisbrey__

For reports run from Cougar Mtn, I do not think that you can get to the runtime control file to set RI_WPTR.__What you may be running in to is a limitation in earlier releases of R&R of the length of the printer queue/name.__If it is more than 31 characters, you might see the cannot match printer or port error.____Is that possibly what is happening here?______Kathleen__R&R Support
