Failed to save document

Post by Eddie_Marshall » Wed Dec 19, 2001 7:15 am

I have a client who gets the error ^faled to save document^ every time she tries to save a new or existing report. When she tries it on any other machine she can do this without any problems. They have an NT4 server and workstations. I don^t think there is an issue with network permissions as she is fine when logging onto the network as herself on another machine. Each copy of R&R is installed locally and they have tried reinstalling it already. R&R help says the files may be corrupt but I know this isn^t the case.____Any suggestions as to what may be causing this?____Eddie Marshall__Technical Support__LandMaster

If this is version 9, try adding the line ____LIBRARIAN=OFF____to the [Defaults] section of c:windows rw.ini and see if it helps.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Kathleen,____Did you or anyone else have any thoughts on this. The user is only on version 8.1 so your previous suggestion is not applicable. The problem is machine specific. It is a Windows NT wokstation and everyone eho logs on gets the same message, even although all other machines are fine.____Thanks in advance.____Eddie__Technical Support__LandMaster

What happens if you do a save as and specify the file path
ame as:____C: estrep.rrw____That would see if we can find and write to the root directory of C:____It has to be either a permissions problem or a confusion over file locations that would cause this error.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Deductive reasoning would indicate it^s that particular computer and not R&R. Is there anything else happening with that particular machine that is strange? Did this just start recently? If so, what happened to the machine around the time it started (new software, hardware, etc.)____If all else fails, I^d suggest reinstalling the operating system without reformatting the drive. If that doesn^t work, reformat and reinstall.____When something is wrong with the computer, you can beat yourself to death. First it shows up in one program, then another. Pretty soon things start going South fast.____Hope this helps.____Pat__

They are going to try reinstalling everything from scratch. The client had moved offices and this is the only PC that wasn^t brand new so there must be some conflict between it and the new environment.____Once again, thanks for all your help.____Eddie
