Rapid Run Locking on NT

Post by theflash » Thu Feb 21, 2002 1:40 pm

This is kind of a part II o my previous post, but in the case where a report set is automatically run with the "AT" command for Win NT and one of the reports is unsuccessful, the whole report set is then locked up in the system. This prevents me from being able to make changes and save to the report set, or to continue running it automatically. I have tried using the Task Manager to "end task" on rapidrun.exe but am unsuccessful. It seems the only way to truly END this task is to reboot the server. Being that this is a highly used server all day long, this is not really an option. Does anyone know another way to end task on rapidrun.exe without booting the server ? ____Using Windows NT 4.0 w/ AT command at Dos __Running RapidRun.exe from RR v 9.0

I asked development about this issue and here are their comments:____It may be that the AT command is not running the process with the same__user privileges as when the set is run manually. This may be better__controllable by using the Windows scheduler instead of AT.____- Have youtried terminating rapidrun.exe in the processes tab as well as the applications tab of the task list?____- Why should rebooting the server be necessary? Wont rebooting the__workstation Rapid Runner is run from do it? Unless it^s being run from the server. If so, would running it from a workstation be a workaround?____- Possible workaround: have the 5th report save locally, and follow with a scheduled task to copy or move the result to the network.______Kathleen__R&R Support

Kathleen, ____I really appologize, for some reason I was unable to see your posted reply to this message until I posted my other one "did you reply?".____In answer to your suggestions.____The AT command would have no reason to run as a different user, as the administrative user is always the one logged in, and I have seen nothing that would indicate that I need to set a user in the AT profile. Also the AT command is totally capable of running the set, and ONLY locks when it comes to the one report that is trying to export to a networked drive.____In answer to trying the Task Scheduler, there wasn^t one installed on the NT 4.0 server (which is where I am running the reports from) and I thought the command to auto run a specific set was a DOS level command. Example:____c: eportwriter apidrun apidrun.exe c:commonuserfiles eportssales.set /run____I am not sure how I would set it up as an automated task with task scheduler and even if there IS a scheduler for NT as mine didn^t have one, but I will look into that.____I am unable to run this report efficiently on a workstation as the size of the data base and the detail as well as quantity of reports run is resource intensive.____In answer to your suggestion about "end task" in both programs and processes, yes I have tried both and interestingly enough, even though the report set is locked up and I can^t open RapidRun without first being told that the "file is currently open" there is NO RapidRun.exe in the "Programs" tab of the task manager, only in the "Processes" tab. ____Now when manually opened and clicking "ok" to the "file already open" error, I can STILL run the set manually, but I can not end task on the RapidRun process that is locked up and run the report again automatically, UNTIL I have rebooted the server.____Thanks again for your input. Any additional suggestions would be GREAT!~~~!____Michael__
