Formatting VARCHAR fields

Post by Jane_Blyth » Wed Jun 02, 2010 8:56 pm

Hello, In Report Writer (v10) i have two varchar fields__1)for sort codes nnnnnn, which I^ve split down into seperate components and concatenated with a dash in a new field using SUBSTR e.g. nn-nn-nn. When this field is exported as a .csv file, any sort code that looks like a date is displayed as a date (e.g. 01/07/26) and any it can^t it leaves them how I want them to be (E.g.64-34-10). I can^t find anyway to format the original fields or the concatenated field so that it stays like the output in report writer when it is exported into a .csv file. __2) The second problem is still a varchar field which in Report Writer displays a leading zero and I need this leading zero to still be displayed when exported to a .csv file. Again I can^t find a way to format the Varchar fields in Report Writer.__Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you, Jane

Hi, When the file is opened in notepad there is no leading 0 in the reference number and the sort codes that could possibly be dates are looking like dates still i.e. 01/07/34

Version 10 is an old release. I tested export in the latest release and my export file had the correct format.____Upgrade is the best way to solve the problem you are seeing.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Hi Kathleen, does that mean there was an error in v10 and this has been ^fixed^ in a later release - would you be able to get that verified please that this was a known error and there was a fix? Also what is the latest release please? Thank you Jane.
