Printer Driver Substitution

A number of issues posted to this forum are related to printers hanging or otherwise not operating properly. The potential solution is usually to "try another printer driver". In one of the newest messages K. Fleming states that "we sometimes have trouble with newer printer drivers". Does this mean that there is a design flaw in R&R V8 & 9? If a given OS/printer/driver combination works fine with OFFICE 2000 or XP why should a different printer driver be required to successfully print from R&R? I^m trying to use R&R in conjunction with applications installed at major companies. Asking users to change print drivers for R&R suggests that R&R is somehow flawed, incomplete or just not up-to-date. I^ve used R&R for years for dozens of projects and printing was once one of R&R^s strongest features. I^m getting a bit gun-shy about installing the R&R runtime on WIN2K systems thinking that its likely that I^m going to have printing problems. What are the problems you are encountering with printer drivers so that we as developers can help you solve them!__

We have had users report problems printing to several newer printers that support more complex functionality.____The problem in fixing this bug/or potentially several bugs is that we do not have the ability to reproduce these problems in house since having the actual printer is usually a pre-requisite to using these drivers.____So if anyone can loan a problem printer to us, we can likely find/fix the problem.____Kathleen__R&R Support

I would agree with your proposed solution if one were using an obscure printer but an HP2100 is very common. I^m sure your local Best Buy has one available. In fact you probably have one in house. I^m certainly not a printer driver expert but is it unreasonable to expect that the R&R software should be able to function correctly with new HP printers under WIN2K (see previous posting on this forum)? I^ve always been under the impression that the printer driver interface was supposed to simplify printing under Windows? Are you saying that Liveware cannot resolve these printing issues because printer drivers have become to complex or change to quickly?__

We have a limited number of printers in house and the HP2100 is not one of them.__ __There is for sure a bug lurking but it is biting only a small minority of users.____Kathleen__R&R Support__
