multiple-scan report

I am using version 9, build 9.0.009. The report I^m working on has a master table with a client number that I have linked to a table (one-to-many) containing current posting information for each client number. I am trying to add another scan relationship to a table containing historical posting information for each client number. I am able to get the detail information, but am having trouble combining the amount from the current table with the amount from the historical table and reporting the total year-to-date only once. The report based only on current information is quite complicated, with a few sort/group levels and conditional printing. I have looked at the documentation and haven^t been able to find anything to help me figure this out. Thank you very much for any help.
