R&Rv8.1 (Win98) and RP5

Post by Arvi_Laanemets_(Guest) » Wed Nov 28, 2001 7:37 am

Hi____We have a 3-d party application which is using R&R (some earlier version - 4.0 or 5.0 maybe) runtime to generate reports. The reports are grouped in rp5-containers. While we need our own reports sometimes, we buyed R&R 8.1. Mostly it works normal, but not always.____1) Sometimes when I save a report, the application isn^t displaying it in the container. Once saving under different name helped, but now I have a case where nothing helps. R&R sees it.____2) I have a report which is giving an error in application (a calculated field must be edited) afterI have opened it with R&R and written over. NB! I haven^t changed anything, but when I open the report, the location of one file and its index file are asked.____When I send my report to authors of the application and they save it (again without any changes), then it is working again.____The Formula for calculated field is :__IIF(LEPINGUD->TAHTAEG=^^,^määramata ajaks^,^^). ____NB! The field LEPINGUD->TAHTAEG is from parent table, not from the one whose location was asked.______Thanks in advance for any help__Arvi Laanemets__

I can think of no obvious answer to these problems without having access to the actual data and reports.____Any chance you could convince the application vendor to update to the version you are using?____You might try using Options File Settings Data and set the data directory to the location where the files on which you get the error on opening the report actually reside. We check that default any time we cannot find a file that is in the saved report location.____The calc must be edited is typically caused by a reference to a field or user function that is not available in the current environment.__However there are sometimes minor bugs within diffirent R&R versions that might engender that error erroneously. When that is the case you can usually edit the calc, make no change and then save the calc and in turn re-save the report so that the error does not appear the next time it is opened.________Kathleen__R&R Support

>Any chance you could convince the application vendor to __>update to the version you are using? ____I^m afraid there isn^t. They can have the problems with old clients then. And R&R 8.1 supports *.rp5 backward only (or am I false there?). ____>__>You might try using Options File Settings Data and set the __>data directory to the location where the files on which you __>get the error on opening the report actually reside. We __>check that default any time we cannot find a file that is in __>the saved report location. ____The file settings for Parent Table are OK (Data - T:WKAADER). But an associated table and its index file (CDX) are placed in other directory (T:WPALK). I reentered in Database.Relations all references to this table anew, but it didn^t help.____>However there are sometimes minor bugs within diffirent R&R __>versions that might engender that error erroneously. When __>that is the case you can usually edit the calc, make no __>change and then save the calc and in turn re-save the report __>so that the error does not appear the next time it is __>opened. ____I tried with minor changes (edited the text).____And the other problem? Why sometimes I don^t see the saved report from Application?______Arvi Laanemets__
