Failed to open document

Post by tbishop » Thu Jan 24, 2002 12:30 pm

I have created reports that are included in software that we develop and distribute to users. The reports were created on a pc that has Windows 2000 and MS Office 2000. We have ^some^ users who are unable to view the reports. ____We have distributed the following with the applications:__rrrun.exe, rrpd.dll, and snbd6w9s.dll____The reports have embedded OLE Word documents and gifs. ____The users are getting the following error message:__Failed to open document.____I have generated the following tests:____I removed all OLE objects, and the report opens on the user^s pc.__I saved the Word documents as Word 95 and reinserted, the report will not open on the user^s pc.__I saved the Word document as a wordpad rtf file and reinserted, the report will not open on the user^s pc.__I created a ^spreadsheet^ in excel and inserted it into the report, the report will not open on the user^s pc.____I hesitate to type in all the verbiage because of the extensive formatting used in the word document that is not available in R&R.____Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.____Thanks!__Teresa____

Try creating an Excel spreadsheet and in that spreadsheet embed the same word document that is giving the problem in the R&R report.__Then send the user the spreadsheet and see if they can open it and the embedded document successfully.__Maybe there is a generic OLE problem on this machine.____Also have them try creating a spreadsheet on their end, embedding a word document and then sending it back to you.____Kathleen__R&R Support
