Group Headers split across pages?
Using R&R Report Writer version 8.1____There is a "Break record area across pages" option (under Format-Record Layout). When checked, it begins printing the record area on the page, and goes to the next page when necessary. When unchecked, it starts a new page if the record area will not fit on the first page.____Is there a way to do this with the Group Header as well? We have an approximately 20 line group header, followed by the record lines. I am unable to find a way to break the group headers, thus they always start a new page if there^s not enough room for them on the initial page. That leaves a lot of blank space on the first page, which when written to file is a lot of blank lines. ____We need those blank lines to be gone when we run the file to our printer, otherwise it messes up the printing and we get a lot of blank pages, so we have to manually edit the file. So, does anyone know if there is a way to have the group header lines break automatically, like you can with the record lines?____Thanks for any help,__Steve

One trick that you can use is repeating the group field at the next level down. So if your group1 field is customer and you have 20 customer header lines, add customer as group field 2 as well. Then move the bottom 10 group1 headers to group level 2. Then R&R only tries to keep 10 rather than 20 lines together.____Kathleen__R&R Support

==> Group Headers split across pages?
Thanks for the response. In general, that would work to reduce the number of blank lines at the bottom of a page, but wouldn^t eliminate them entirely, which is my goal. The problem is that even with only two lines in the group header, a blank line would appear if there was only one line left on the page when the group header is printing. Thus, I would have to break the 20 line group header into 20 separate group headers using your method.____I suspect I may have to either rewrite the report (something I had hoped to avoid, as it will be painful to do and my bosses won^t like having to QC all the changes), or find some other method of running the report. I think I^d like to add the ability to split group headers across pages to the program^s wish list...____Steve
