Rapid runner printer settings

Post by john_schwartz » Tue Nov 12, 2002 2:53 pm

In rapid runner when trying to print a set of reports to paper I encounter a problem where the reports keep printing to Distiller even though I set the printer to my HP laserjet 4100. This happens regardless of whether I "copy" the printer settings or manually set each one. ____Thank you,__John__

I just tried this as well and am seeing the same thing. Despite changing the printer, everything ends up at my current default printer. I will investigate further and let you know when we have a fix.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Thank you for the quick response. I have yet another question for you.__This one regarding the sharing of my reports with other licensed users. __ I converted most of our V.6.5 Reports to V10 now when I put them in a directory on the LAN and try to run them I get an error that tells me the report is in use by someone else, when I know it is not in use by anyone else. If I copy the reports to my or any other machines hard drive this error is not incurred. ____Thank you agin for your help. ____John Schwartz

__Kathleen and all:__This appears to be the same problem I wrote about several months ago. I have NT 4.0 and NT puts the default printer in play. when you use Rapid Runner, it does not matter what you saved the report with, it use the default printer. It almost makes Rapid Runner useless unless you always print to a printer and not send to pdf, etc.____Rick Johnson

Yes this is a Novell network. __And with respect to Rick^s comments it is just the opposite.__Rapid runner is not using my default printer but rather the Acobat Distiller printer. __Thanks for the insight. ____John Schwartz

The erroneous in use message is something that users have reported on some Novell versions. There has been one previous mention on this forum that this can resolved by changing a Novell setting but no one ever has specifically told us what that setting might be.__But is is indeed a interaction of Novell and R&R that causes this.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Sorry that it has taken a while to get back to you on this one.____If you run a single report from within a set, then Rapid Runner does ignore the printer selection. But if you are running an entire set, it should work.__If you view the set file in a text editor, you should see the printer names listed and they should be used when that set is run.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Kathleen,__Actually just the opposite happens when I try and run the entire set it ignores the fact that I changed the setting to the printer and still prints to PDF. If I run each report individually I am propted for the printer. ____I run all my reports to PDSF and only selected ones to paper. So what I have done is create two sets the second is the one that I run to paper. When I try and run the set it sends some reports to paper and some to acrobat distiller. ____Let me know if you get the same results when you try a similar action. ____Thank you,__John
