PDF Viewing/Printing ??
Dear Friends,____ I can create PDF files with my older version of R&R Version 9 with no problem____ *Now* my customer has ^scanned^ a bunch of images into a pdf-format (the files have a .pdf extension), and can view them with Acrobat. But he wants to know if R&R can view/print these .pdf scanned images itself.____ What do I tell my customer please ??____ (What would *I* have to do/program to accomplish this ? --- I^m using Clipper/Blinker. Maybe ^Run^ Acrobat and feed the images to it ???)____-Mel Smith__

You can embed a PDF object into a report and in the designer you can view that object by doubleclicking to invoke the application.__But when you preview such a report, you see just the icon placeholder and not the contents of the object.____I think that you will need to extract the images from the PDF into an image format that you can then place in the report.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Kathleen,____ Thanks for the response (about extracting the image from the document).____ The .pdf document file is purely a steel company document (a steel mill certification of steel quality -- a ^mill cert^). It is a form with typing on it, handwriting on it, and various rubber ^stamps of approval^). I is received by mail by my client, and is to be part of a much larger database of ^mill certs^ which my client wants to bring up at various times and print (individually or in batches)____ When you say ^extract^ the image from this .pdf file -- whatdo you mean ? and how do I ^extract^ the image ??? ____ Sorry, but I^m a bit confused :((____-Mel Smith__

Kathleen & Others,____ I^m less confused now -- but I have another question:____ There is a package (called Gemini Solo) which can ^extract^ images embedded in a .PDF file to a .jpg, .bmp, .tif file type.____ I tried it this morning and it works (at least on R&R V6.0a) !____ The extracted .jpg file is nearly twice the size of the input .pdf file ?? The .tif, and .bmp files are bigger than the input .pdf but not significantly so.____Question: Since I want to plant the extracted image in an R&R report, *which* of these extracted formats should I choose for quality, ease of use, size, etc ??____TIA,____-Mel Smith
