Installing the R&R Ver 10 Runtime

Post by Hack426 » Mon Mar 31, 2003 10:21 am

I need some help. ____I am a developer new to a company using R&R Version 10. I need to install just the R&R Runtime on the clients^ PCs. I^ve looked through the Liveware on-line documentation and have found the R&R Installation document, but I did not find how to install just the Runtime. ____I am assuming to put the R&R CD in, install custom, and just check the Runtime. Is that it? ____I appreciate any assistance.____Thank you.____Hack426

Start your R&R program, then go to help and select index. Then type in runtime and look about 1/2 down the list and you will see a selection for "Required Files". This will explain all that you need to know about what files to send to your customers.____Be careful with CDINTF.DLL, this is the file that helps to create pdf files. It has problems on some machines, not all. If you do not want them to create pdf files, then do not send them this file. If you do and they receive an error whenever they run the report, tell them to rename the file to something else and see if the still get the error. ____Other than that, this is a great product! I use it will all by dbase applications that I sale and it has enhanced my sales a great deal. This is a great product, so take your time with it. It will do much more than you realize....____Tom Freitas

Thanks, Tom. I appreciate the help. ____I have seen that listing in the Help, but I was hoping there would be an easier way to install the Runtime files then trying to put X number of files in RRVer10 and X number in the Windows and X number of files in WindowSystem32. ____Thanks, again.____Hack426

You could just copy the rrwrun.exe and all .DLL files to a distribution directory. That would be the easiest if you are not running any charts or anything else other then reports for viewing/printing and/or downloading.______Tom

Thanks, Tom, but that^s also apart of the issue.____My PC has the Designer for the 1 copy for the license agreement. The users, which is about 20 and growing, want all export options - Wksht, Excel graphpivot, HTML, etc. So each export option DLL has to be available.____I thought the "Custom" "Runtime" from the CD would install all Runtime files needed to run the Viewer and have all of the DLLs for the export options. The concern with this is that the Installation Document on the Liveware on-line Documentation states that the Runtime "rely on Report Designer files assumed previously installed."__But to me then that would break the license agreement about having the Designer on only 1 PC.____Hack426____

The runtime, rrwrun.exe as well as all the .DLL^s are runtime free. Unless you want them to have the designer function as well, there should not be any issue. If you are using your program in an xbase, (dbase, foxpro, etc..), there are easy ways to allow multiple users and to create unique report names for each. The RRWRUNIN.DBF is the key in doing this. You need to read the documentation that describes what each field does and its relationship to other fields in the file. This is one of the many great functions of R&R______Tom Freitas

Thanks, Tom.____I^ve worked with R&R 5. for years so I know all about the RRUNIN and what not. I just don^t have the expirance with 10 yet. That^s why I^ve only been asking about installing the Runtime for 10.____My clients are 1 1/2 hours away. I won^t be able to install a the runtime files until Thursday when I visit them. I started last week of "installing the Runtime" by verifing the Required Files were in the right place on one of the client PC^s. Just verifing and coping the files from a CD-RW to the PC took a while. ____I may just have to write a VFP 7 exe to install the files where I need them based on the os. It just seems like a lot of work just to put on the Runtime. That^s why I hoped the R&R 10 CD would install all that for me without issues as to the license agreement. ____Again, I appreciate your help. I^ll let you know if I have any other questions.____Hack

You could just do a typical install and then delete the R?W.EXE and R?W.LIC files when the installer completes.____Kathleen__R&R Support

That^s it? Just to make sure: that will install the Runtime and then by deleting the RRW.EXE and RRW.LIC will not cause an issue with the license agreement? ____Thanks, Kathleen. That will save alot of time for me.____I appreciate your help as well as Tom^s.____Thanks, again.____Hack____
