Installing Adobe PDF

I make extensive use of pdf files within R&R. __I am about to install the complete version of Adobe (not just the reader) for another project. Are there any know conflicts and will this installation adversely affect my ability to create .pdf files within R&R. I am mainly concerned with file and driver conflicts. I have too many .pdf reports and too much time invested to have something go awry now. Thanks for any insight.__Rick Johnson__Rick Johnson

I have the full Adobe Acrobat on my machine and successfully use both the R&R PDF Export and the Adobe Distiller.____Kathleen__R&R Support

There are some conflicts, but no one has figured out yet exactly where it it. Some machines, especially XP, will get errors after runing the pdf program stating that Windows had to shut it down. Also, I can create a pdf file from the report generator, but if I try it through a program I get the error. Outside the generator, the report will run real slow, that is a sign. The result will be a file that is excessively large. I have about 50 clients using the runtime, rrwrun.exe and those that have the XP machine are the ones that are getting this error.____It is possible that you will not get the problem, but someone on the network will. I as well as others have reported this to R&R, but since they can not replicate it, they can not fix it. Since they do not get the problem, then they feel there is no problem.____R&R is a great reporting program. I would never stop using it and I feel that this problem is a minor one. I wish it worked 100% of the time, but it does not. By deleting or renaming the file CDINTF.DLL, the problem is gone, but you can not create any pdf files.____Good Luck and let us know how it works.____Tom

No question here, Just an update.....____I have had R&R creating pdf files for months. I installed the full Adobe Acrobat. I am pleased to say that I have had NO conflicts. I have run approximately 50 reports under R&R since installing Adobe. I have used Adobe to manipulate some files.____I am a single user running R&R 9.009 with Windows NT. Now, I will be upgrading to ver 10 and I hope that goes as well.__ __Rick Johnson

That is the strange thing about this problem. Some have no problems at all, and other have the problem. I have been able to create pdf files from the report generator now, but I can not do it through rrwrun.exe as I get an extremely large file, 20 time larger then it should be, which does not function. After the report is finished I get the error message the windows is closing the file.____I have all the latest updates using Windows XP pro and R&R 10.xxx latest version.____Go figure!

I once had the experience of having the files too large. Then I noted that I only had this situation was when I failed to put the .pdf on the file name when creating the file. Since I do most everything through runtime, I now have hardcoded the .pdf on the files and no problem. ____Perhaps It is because I do everything on one machine, but I have no problems with .pdf files and I do a lot of file and reports for our bank. Now, I do have deployed runtime programs and files running in several departments and they work fine, but they too run on a local machine with one operator. None of my files are on the network.____Go figure__Rick Johnson

As I stated before, it works in the report generator just fine. The printed saved with the RRW file is R&R PDF Export the check box Print to file is checked, the Print What is set to Report and the Print file is equal to c: ompm.pdf____The problem is when I use the runtime in a visual dbase program. The command in the program, which works if I am not creating a pdf file, is run(.t.,"rrwrun.exe pm.rrw")____With the above command the report writer screen appears showing that it is running through each record. However, the speed is extremely slow, the exported file which is normally 1.2 mb is over 20 mb and can not be read by Adobe pdf reader. The actual pdf output, run through the report generator, is 116 pages with very little color a lot of line boxes and some shading. I might add, that the same program will work as it should on a Window 98 machine I have, but not on my XP machine. A lot of my clients have the same problem, not only with XP but also with 98 and NT.____Tom

I just tried something and I suggest that anyone else with the problem also try this.____As I stated before, the problem arises with a Visual dBase program I have when I call up the runtime version, rrwrun.exe. I now believe that the problem is not with R&R, but with Visual dBase. The same could be true with Visual FoxPro as well as others.____I went to the DOS lever then simply typed in rrwrun.exe pm.rrw and the R&R report did exactly what is was suppose to do. The one thing I noticed was that the report first appears on the screen and then I have to select print. That is were the problem happens with the Visual dBase. If there was a way to have it simply print without displaying the report first, and there may be, that might fix the problem.____Again, this does not seem to be an R&R problem.

Thomas. I run 99% of my reports from runtime via Visual dBase. I use a dbase table (rrwrunin.dbf). I update one of the entries in the rrwrunin with the correct filename.pdf, an use run(.t.,"rrwrun rrwrunin 1") (useing record 1) and it runs perfectly. I have about 100 programs running like this and because of this, I am able to run them in a batch type fashion and get 5-10 reports one after the other. In fact, one of my jobs runs over 350 reports for 30 regions of the bank with no invervention and no problem. __ Again, I am on NT4.0 and R&R 9.0009.____Please feel free to call me or email me directly if you want more explanation. this is just to add a good news note to this discussion:____i am successfully using the Adobe 4 Distiller (print driver) with RRV9 and NT4.0 - running both the designer and runtime with no problems. I have turned off the RR-PDF print driver and am using the Adobe print driver instead. I have also turned off the Librarian and am using the Adobe Distiller as the DEFAULT printer and have set the PRINTER=DEFAULT in the RRW.INI defaults in the registry. Again - no failures at all - even when running complex reports with charting (which requires more memory). i believe RR is clearly the most stable reporting product available in the market today. i have hundreds of customers using the RRv9 runtime for production reporting needs.____i plan to move to RRv10 as soon as i complete testing of RRv10 with XP. I also plan to upgrade and test with Adobe 5 Distiller.____nick__
