Problems on AMD Athlon XP 2.5Ghz

Post by Chris_Ransom_(Guest) » Tue Jan 20, 2004 8:18 am

I^ve just upgraded to a new AMD Athlon 2.5Ghz PC and have since found that some tried and trusted R&R Reports won^t work anymore. Typicaly they cause my PC to hang at the point when a box pops up showing Records Read n, Records Exported n and the only way out is to power it off completely. I^ve tried some of the same reports on another PC of the same spec which has been set up from scratch (ie the hard drive was completely new and unformatted to start with) and the result is exactly the same. But the identical report on my old machine (1.8Ghz) works perfectly.____I posted a similar message before Christmas and got a partial workaround answer but no reason for why this should be happening and it has become more of a problem as I^ve noticed several reports are affected. Can you confirm that R&R has been tested on a machine of similar spec with no problem? The OS is Windows ME.__

We do not have a similar machine in our test lab but I cannot think of a reason why processor speed should make a difference.____Do you see the problem with all reports? Does it make any difference what printer is selected?____Kathleen__R&R Support

No it is only on certain reports - about 3 I^ve noticed so far - but the odd thing is they will all work OK on other slower PCs. Changing the printer doesn^t seem to help. I^ve tried everything I can think of to solve this - cleared the TEMP folder, reinstalled Windows, stopped anti-virus software - but still the reports affected just hang which is why I asked about processor speed. I know it^s odd I just can^t think what else it could be.

Any further thoughts on this? I^m really stuck without being able to run these reports reliably.

Afraid that I can think of no explanation of why this might be happening.____Kathleen__R&R Support

OK I^ve spent another few hours on this and I^m pretty sure R&R SQL 6.5 will no longer work on the faster processors. I took the same system and Ghosted on Windows 98 SE and tried to run a problem report using R&R SQL 6.5 and it hung at exactly the same point as before. I then tried installing R&R SQL V9 which I^ve had for a while but never used, re-ran the same report on the same PC using the same OS and it worked. The only conclusion I can make is that SQL 6.5 no longer runs 100% reliably on faster processors.

6.5 was designed for 16bit operating systems only.__I should have enquired earlier regarding which R&R version you were running.____Kathleen__R&R Support
