Using printer fonts

Post by Sandi__(Guest) » Mon Jul 16, 2001 6:59 am

I have a series of reports where I want to use printer fonts. My users have dot-matrix printers of different types. What I have to do to speed up printing time using printer fonts?____TIA__Sandi

Different printers may have different printer native fonts so there may not be a good common denominator other than using the Generic Text Only printer driver at all client sites rather than their usual printer driver.______Kathleen__R&R Support

I understand that generic text printer will do the job while printing. But, in print preview, all fonts are the same size. Do I need to change font size? It looks like R&R doesn^t preview printer fonts in native size. Is that true?____Regards,__Sandi

Print Preview should look just like the printed page would.____Kathleen__R&R Support

When I use font 10 cpi, everything is OK. But, if I want to use condensed mode (17 cpi), fonts in preview window are the same size. I happens with 5 cpi fonts, too. I tried on two computers, and it is the same.__I am working with R&R 8.1 with patch 8.1026.____Regards,__Sandi

When I select the generic printer under Win98, the only font that is available to me is Roman10cpi 12 point.____Do you see additional font choices?____Kathleen__R&R Support

I can see few printer fonts, like Courier 10, 12, 15, 17 , 20, 5 and so on cpi. __If I select any of them font size in preview window is the same.__Anyway,____can you tell me how to create report so I can print in 17 cpi, using printer fonts, not windows fonts, and have a good print preview?____Best regards,__Sandi

I am usin OKIDATA ML 390 and OKIDATA ML 590 drivers. When you install it, you can see many printer fonts in different sizes, but in print preview (or report designer) they are all the same size.____Regards,__Sandi

I just tried the Oki393 driver that is on my machine and saw the same thing.__The source of the problem is that R&R sees the only available point size for that font as 10. And it is the point size that controls the display.____So that is the problem and I am not sure what to offer as a solution.____Kathleen__R&R Support
