Err printing to an IP printer V10.

Post by KAB » Tue May 17, 2005 12:43 pm

I have four printers available to a file server. Two have a full UNC path name, and print a report fine.__The other two printers are ip addressed printers and generate an error every time the report is run.__I have left the ri_wptr and ri_wport as ? all printers show in the list.__Ideas Thoughts?

Can you execute RRWRUN.EXE from explorer and then select and run the report? That would be the first diagnostic. If that works, then try a simple text control file with just an RI_REPORT value and see if that works.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Kathleen:__I am able to run the report from explorer, however it then lacks the control information required to scope the report and specify the ip printer.__As I have stated earlier I can also run the report from a command prompt with a control file, to the unc pathed printers without an error. The only time I have an issue is when I use the IP designated printers.

They are set to ? which allows for the lookup of the printers from a list.

Try RI_WPTR=? and WI_PORT as a blank value and see if that helps.____Kathleen__R&R Support

Kathleen,____I am also looking into this problem and can re-create at will on my system. ____if I put DEFAULT into RI_WPTR and RI_WPORT it works. If I put "?" in thenm it fails and comes up with a windows error asking me if I want to sent the error to microsoft. I tried your suggestion of putting the "?" into one and not the other RI_W fields and it still fails.____My printer is just a shared printer, not an IP printer.____My O/S is xp professional SP1____It shows the R&R icon in in the task bar while it is running, but then it fails.____

What happens if you select the Properties button in the Print dialog prior to actually printing the report?____Kathleen__R&R Support
